Since
its official release in the 2005 COMPUTEX,
The
VM-221 is a pen shaped optical computer mouse that also works as a laser
presenter. In the Mouse Mode, it provides the convenience and comfort of a
traditional pen with a “pen-and-paper”-like sensitivity for working over almost
any non-reflective surface, including soft and curved surfaces; such as a pillow
or a person’s lap. This unique property allows the user to change work positions
at will so as to minimize fatigue and avoid potential carpal tunnel syndrome
that may be linked to the prolonged use of the traditional mouse. In the
Presenter Mode, the VM-221 performs like a wireless laser presenter with
10-meter operating range.
In 2004
Salient Technology’s wired V-Mouse, the VM-101, also won the Good Product Design
Award. “We are glad that our hard work is recognized by the award committee once
again,” said Dr. Robbie Liu, President and CEO of Salient Technology. “This
second award means a lot to us and it looks like we are on the right path (to
developing the perfect computer pointing device for everyone,)” Dr. Liu
added.
VM-221
uses the world’s most advanced, proprietary 2.4 GHz, 16-channel, 65,000 device
code/channel RF technology. Its well balanced 39-gm body is dressed with a
rubberized grip and packed with a built-in rechargeable Li-battery that can be
charged through a USB port. Compared to VM-101, the VM-221 is also lighter and
slimmer, making it suitable for smaller hands as well. The Bluetooth version of
the VM-221 is scheduled for release in late Q4, 2005.
Salient
Technology Inc. is a privately owned company established in February 2002.
Salient Technology is dedicated to developing computer input and identity
identification technologies and products. The company can be contacted through
their web site: http://http://www.pen-mouse.com/
.
“The wireless duo will officially start our VM-200 series
products. With VM-221, there is no need to carry a laser pointer, a wireless
presenter and a mouse to your presentations any more.” said Dr. Robbie Liu,
President and CEO of the company. “What’s better, you never have to worry about
changing the battery!” added Dr. Liu.
The VM-221 is a 2.4 GHz RF device that
has all the above functions and is equipped with an internal rechargeable
Lithium battery that spares the user from buying and replacing batteries. The
VM-221 offers more than just functions. For a mouse, it has the ultimate
ergonomic shape of a pen and provides true optical 1000 DPI resolution for a
pen-on-paper like sensitivity and precision. In addition, its patented design
allows it to work on almost any surface, including soft and curved surfaces;
such as: pillows, car seats, or even on a person’s arm. This device provides an
up to 10-meter transmission distance and weighs less than 35 gm (~1.2
Oz).
The VM-201 shares the same look as the
VM-221 but lacks the laser pointer and the presenter functions. Both models use
the computer USB port for battery charging and remain operational even during
charging. Like all previous V-Mouse products, they work on Windows and Mac
computers without any additional drivers. VM-201 and VM-221 are in pilot
production right now. For more detailed descriptions or inquiries of these two
amazing products and other award winning Salient Technology products, visit the

San Ramon, California, October 1,
2004: Salient Technology received
Japan’s prestigious Good Product Design Award for its V-Mouse product VM-101
today.
The V-Mouse VM-101 received the 2004 Good
Product Design Award in Japan
today. This year only 82 IT products from around the world received this honor.
Additionally, some winners may never show up in the market for reasons such as
manufacturing cost.
The iPod by Apple received the G-Mark
Award in the same “Product Design / Personal Computer And Related Products”
category when it was released.
To celebrate this event, Salient
Technology is offering special wholesale price on the VM-101 for a limited time.

San Ramon, California, October 17, 2003: Salient Technology made a
donation to California High School ( http://www.chs.srvusd.k12.ca.us/ ) in San Ramon, California,
today.
The donation included 8 VM-90’s and 2
VM-100’s and was accepted by Assistant Principal Sally Savage. “What a wonderful
donation. We should put some of them in the technology lab. And may be some of
our teachers should use this as well. Thank you very much, Salient Technology!”
said Assistant Principal Savage.
Due to its uniquely designed shape and
the 1000 DPI resolution, V-Mouse is perfect for computer
artwork.
Assistant Principal Savage uses a laptop
computer for her daily work and never liked to use the Touch Pad installed on
her laptop. After being told that the V-Mouse can also be used on her lap, she
smiled: “What a neat idea.”

San Ramon, California, October 04,
2003: Salient Technology announced
toady that it has submitted its up-coming wireless V-Mouse product VM-200 to the
Innovation Contest of CES, 2004, in Las Vegas.
“This shows our confidence in the design
and the development of our product.” says Robbie Liu, President and CEO of
Salient. “We have learned a lot from our wired mouse product line and all that
learning went into the wireless V-Mouse design and development. I am confident
that the community will recognize our talent and hard work.” added
Liu.
Following the V-Mouse concept, the VM-200
is a pan-shaped optical computer mouse that can be used on almost any surface,
including the user’s lap, and at any orientation. Powered by a single AA
battery, the VM-200 uses RF technology to eliminate the need of a cable that
must be otherwise connected to the CPU for power and communication
needs.
In addition to the missing USB wire, the
VM-200 body is also smaller in size when compared to the wired V-Mouse version
VM-101. This makes the VM-200 a desirable mouse even for users with smaller
hands. Salient Technology has previewed the VM-200 in the COMPUTEX Taipei, 2003,
show and received overwhelmingly positive response from the show
visitors.
Salient Technology is a registered
exhibitor in CES 2004, Las Vegas, and is planning to formally introduce the
VM-200 to the world at the show. A live demo of VM-200 in the show is planned
right now.
The VM-200 ID is managed by MintStar
Product Design, Co. (http://www.mintstar.com/) , in Taiwan.
MintStar is a long time product development partner of
Salient.

Taipei, Taiwan, September 23,
2003: Salient Technology previewed its
upcoming first wireless V-Mouse product, the VM-200, in COMPUTEX Taipei, 2003,
today.
A non-functional mockup of the VM-200
will be put on display at the VM-101 demo site in the trade show to give the
visitor a first look of what the wireless V-Mouse will look like. Visitors will
also be able to hold the mockup in their hands and feel how easy it is to use it
for computer pointing operation.
“Although the texture and the details may
be modified before the production, the shape and size of the VM-200 are pretty
much fixed.” says Robbie Liu, President and CEO of Salient. “As you can tell, we
have made significant improvement in this product (, as comparing to the
existing products,) and I am sure people will love it.” Liu
added.
“This is what I have been looking for.
When can I get one?” asked one visitor, a buyer from a Japan IT retail store
chain.

Taipei, Taiwan, September 22,
2003: On the exciting floor of COMPUTEX
Taipei, 2003, Salient Technology introduced its latest V-Mouse product VM-101 to
the audience with live demonstration throughout this entire 5-day international
trade show event. Mr. Mike Lin, Assistant Manager of International Sales of
Salient, managed the entire event for Salient. “We have planned for a long time
for this event and I believe it is going to be a very successful experience for
both our visitors and Salient.” Mr. Lin said. “Because the V-Mouse is such a
revolutionary product, we really want to show the world what this product can
bring to the user. And, what better way is there than to give the visitors a
first-hand experience with this product?” added Lin.
The VM-101 is a wired USB computer mouse
that can be operated like a pen. In addition to using it on a desk top like a
traditional mouse, VM-101 can also be used on the user’s lap. This posture of
operating a computer mouse, according to a study done in Cornell University, is
the most desirable form from an ergonomic stand point.
“We are expecting more than 100 visitors
from all over the world to come to see our demo in this trade show.” Said Lin.
“With their first-hand experience of the VM-101, I think the words will be
spread out very quickly that the V-Mouse really is what a computer mouse should
be.”
The demonstration of VM-101 is held at
Booth 523, Section B, Taipei International Trade Center Building 1. Salient
Technology developed VM-101 from scratch and equipped it with the world highest
1000 DPI (Dot Per Inch) resolution. VM-101 comes in 5 different colors and
carries a standard 3-year limited warranty. VM-101 is ready for mass production and
accepting orders right now.
